Review:
Whoever, or whatever, The All-Madden Team Band is the album Tuff Stuff is
absolutely brilliant. As 2001 closes it has been a bumper year for Nils Lofgren
music. Break Away Angel knocked me dead
and the UK tour was stupendous. To have this album released at the same
time is a bonus that's heaven sent. Long and short tracks, voice-overs,
vocals, acoustic, electric, rock, blues - it has everything. Sure its a
bit of an odd ball in that unlike any other Nils album there's no plot to it.
It's just a collection of tracks with just one or two linking together but
somehow it works. Track 8, Pablo Blues, has gone straight into my
personal Top 10 Nils' tracks! The rather ironic I'm Buying is
certainly a highlight but I have always liked instrumentals and yet up to this
point instrumentals have not available. Apart from the rare and wonderful
Crystal Ball (a collaboration with Sting in the 80's) and the three tracks
lifted from Every Breath that's it for non-vocal tracks. this album has
filled the void magnificently. Tuff Stuff! is an album I would recommend highly
for any music lover but for a Nils Lofgren fan just go out and buy it!

A Web Review:
Nils Lofgren Releases Album With John Madden
E
Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren has released an album through his
nilslofgren.com website with football commentator John Madden. The
album, Tuff Stuff! The Best Of The All-Madden Team Band,
features 34 tracks, ranging in length from nine seconds to five
minutes and 39 seconds, many of which were used by Madden during his
annual All-Madden Team football specials.
We asked Lofgren how the album came to be:
"I've been doing original rock for him for almost a decade. And you
can't really hear it, 'cause they do have to talk over it, and I had
over an hour of it, and he let me put it out as an instrumental
record. He also included some 'Madden-isms' in some of the tracks,
some of his favorite expressions. So it's really kind of a really
ballsy rockin' record that's out on my website." |
