Review At the time I rated this album as a
very poor substitute to the brilliance of Back
It Up (now sold as the Bootleg CD - available at gigs and at
www.nilslofgren.com ). Night After Night was an attempt to fill the
cavernous gap left by Back It Up as A&M were reluctant to release
it. Anyhow, in retrospect, the album, a double LP and not
available on CD in the UK or USA, is not a bad collection of live
recordings containing the best of the first three albums and classic
Grin songs. There is plenty of guitar and piano wizardry with
wonderful virtuoso intros. Available on CD as an Australian import
but not easy to get hold of. Try

AMG EXPERT REVIEW: Though not an
inspired effort, this double live album does contain its moments.
Lofgren's muscular guitar playing is particularly evident on tracks such
as "Keith Don't Go" (an ode to Rolling Stone Keith Richards) and "Cry
Tough." Lofgren has long been underrated as a guitar player and
songwriter, and although this album does not have the dynamic energy
that some of his live shows of the '70s had, it does catch the former E
Street guitarist playing some fine lead guitar. — Steve Kurutz
